Lose Like A Winner Mug (T.J. Cloutier)
"Play the player." - T.J. Cloutier, Six-time World Series of Poker Champion, Poker Hall of Fame Member
When you lose, be gracious in defeat. At the 2000 WSOP Main Event final table, T.J. found himself heads-up with Ace-Queen against Chris (Jesus) Ferguson’s Ace-Nine for the championship. The hand that would have pushed him towards winning the Main Event ended in disaster. Cloutier got all the chips in heads up against Ferguson. Chris spiked a Nine on the river to win the Main Event and $1.5 million dollars. T.J. was way ahead of Chris but lost this memorable hand. When the nine came on the river, spectators said you would have never known T.J. lost -- not just the hand, but first place, the WSOP bracelet and the $1.5M in potential winnings. When T.J. was interviewed by the press after the event, he said, “You have to learn to Lose Like a Winner and be gracious in defeat." T.J. said, "Chris played well. Hell, anyone that gets to the final table has to have played well to get there." T.J. showed all of us how to be emotionally intelligent and how to lose and act like a winner, always.
